Supervision
I am absolutely passionate about supervision and see it as an essential for not only counsellors but anyone working in a caring and supportive environment. After all you can't drink from an empty cup, and supervision gives us the opportunity to attend to our own well-being, growth and development.
Like counselling you have to take time to find the right supervisor for you. I have post graduate training in Supervision and experience of supervising in a variety of settings with counsellors and non-counsellors alike. I have worked with individuals and with groups up to a maximum of 6 people.
As with therapy, supervision offers a safe and non-judgmental space where you can reflect upon your work. Supervision not only safeguards the clients, but allows the therapist the time to consider their approach, learn from their experience and grow in knowledge and ability.
It gives us the opportunity to attend to our own well-being, thus ensuring that we don't burn out but continue to find our work fulfilling.
Like with counselling supervision works best when there is mutual respect and I come not as an expert but as a colleague. My Supervision work is informed by the BACP Ethical Framework for Good Practice.
